Two major adjustments have noticeably changed Wohngeld recently: the Wohngeld-Plus reform in 2023 and the Wohngeld increase in 2025. What is behind them – and what they mean for Dortmund.
The Wohngeld-Plus reform in 2023 significantly expanded the benefits. At the turn of 2025 the next adjustment followed: on average around 15 percent more Wohngeld is paid than in 2024, and higher income limits widen the circle of eligible households.
Wohngeld-Plus 2023: the big leap
The 2023 reform noticeably increased Wohngeld and expanded the circle of recipients – significantly more households have been able to receive Wohngeld since then, and average amounts have risen.
Wohngeld increase 2025: around 15 percent more
At the turn of 2025, Wohngeld was adjusted again: on average, payments are around 15 percent above the 2024 level. The income limits were also raised – bringing additional households into the Wohngeld range.
What this means for Dortmund
