There is no fixed income limit for Wohngeld – what matters is the ratio of income, rent and household size. Here we explain how income is calculated.
There is no single figure. Whether Wohngeld is paid results from the interplay of household income, rent, household size and Dortmund's rent level. In principle: whoever cannot afford the rent on their own can receive Wohngeld.
Which income counts?
- Earned income from employment and self-employment
- Pensions and retirement benefits
- Unemployment benefit I, sick pay, parental allowance
- Child benefit, maintenance payments and capital income
- The income of all household members is considered jointly.
What is deducted from the income?
Not all income flows into the calculation. Taxes and compulsory social security contributions are deducted, as well as certain allowances – for example for maintenance payments or severe disability. This leaves more of your income unconsidered.
Is there a minimum income?
No fixed minimum income is required. However: households with so little income that even Wohngeld would not secure the subsistence minimum do not receive Wohngeld – other benefits such as Bürgergeld are intended for them.
